On a crisp March day, geography and environmental studies welcomed back recent grads Rachel Ulm '21 and Tingkuan Hsieh '24 to speak with current students about their careers after graduation.
Both spoke about their current jobs after graduation, and how they landed in their current careers, apparently going in two very different directions. Rachel Ulm now coordinates logistics and administrative support for in-person, virtual, and hybrid events for Cogut Institute for the Humanities at Brown University, while Tingkuan is GIS Developer at Vermont Electric Power Company. For all their apparent differences in not only their jobs but also how they got their jobs, Rachel applying to every job she could find after graduation, while Tingkuan initially networked his way to his position as a summer intern, both spoke about how communication skills nurtured at Colgate helped them land their current positions.
When questioned about their off-campus experiences, both alumni took advantage of participation in the ENST/Geography Australia Off-Campus Study Group, one pre- and post-COVID lockdown, which resulted in some different experiences.
While not necessarily remembering every single aspect of each class they took at Colgate, both seemed pleased to have returned and happy to share their experiences with current students.
